While the style is very fine here, very much to my liking, and the animation is smooth, I'm afraid I don't think it really fits in the Movie Portal. It's got no sound and is very short, and, like you say, a test. The Movie Portal is, in my opinion, more for finished animations, like self-contained projects that have a sense of completion to them that makes them like a "Movie". However, the Art Portal accepts GIFs and I think you could post this there and it would fit rather well. I guess we'll see how the users vote this out, but that's my recommendation.

Ah yeah I get that! Thanks though :)

Great animation, really expressive. I love the motions, they're really detailed and wacky as well as being smooth af, kinda hypnotizing. Interesting mix of styles with the dad. You made an interesting gag out of the audio, though I feel like the parental disappointment and stuff lowers the legend level of this absolute madman.
This is really nice, you're great at cartoony expression and the wacky stuff like with the door. Just really fun watching this, very rhythmic indeed.

That was cool as hell! Major old-school NG toon vibes! Spooky but with that slightly unpolished style and grotesquely comedic. It's really something. Don't know if I could watch another episode, though, pretty dark and I don't really know how you'd handle making multiple episodes out of this concept.

The animation was really nice, great aesthetic with the colors, really plays into both the comedy and the gruesomeness. You did great with the camera angles and movements. Some of them came out a bit janky-looking, a bit too fast, but still fun. The slight panning of the camera during the conversation before the video kept the suspense going, I guess, and they were pretty well-timed with the dialogue to emphasize the right things. The one while James is saying he didn't do anything seemed a little pointless though. A lot of them, though, just classic horror movie and cartoon horror stuff, while also being kinetic and a pretty nice way to spice things up. I think the black screens between scenes could have been handled better, especially the first one, that was a pretty abrupt cut.

The audio was pretty great. Nice voice acting for both characters, especially Victor. The music and sound effects seemed perfectly fitting.

The story was interesting, nice mix of spooks and fun. The concept itself was interesting and you took it in a satisfying direction, with the twist of the sock puppet video. Victor as a character is entertaining on his own. I liked James's caricatured movements and character.

Overall a pretty great animation, with just a little bit of polishing needed in certain areas. Keep it up!

I mean, I like the style and I could see hpw these could be interesting, but it feels a bit spammy posting these 5-second clips. Maybe if you put them in a compilation or something? I mean, I don't really see the humor here anyway, it doesn't really feel like Movie Portal material cause it just doesn't have the complete experience feel. Also, these are old I presume? If you haven't got the audio issues sorted out, I strongly suggest it, it's hard to make out a lot of the stuff in them.

PopTevin responds:

I'm mostly just posting these from my YouTube channel since there all 6 years old, but I might as well do rest in one big pack, so it's less spammy, you make a good point.

The art and animation could be cleaner and a lot of stuff could be more polished, but generally this is pretty fun. I think the main gripes are that you could have made the concept more related to the "problem", however bizarre it may be, cause I didn't see the correlation. Maybe if it was something like "Don't you hate it when you have to carry your crocs on your attached feet?" Or something like that, I don't know. Also, I think that, since your mic quality isn't great, you might wanna refrain from what you did at the end there, because it's super hard to understand. Also, like I said, maybe try cleaning up your art, adding details, visual gags, etc. No pressure, though, I know that takes time and practice. Keep it up!

thanks for the feedback!, I’m currently trying to improve some of my art, and I threw that last peice of audio together by suggestion from a friend last minute, so I was kinda rushing so I could get this out, and now I see why that isn’t the best strategy, thanks for the recommendations, I’ll try to improve on some stuff!

The animation's a little rough, but, otherwise, pretty fun! Voice acting on Luke was a bit wonky/over-the-top, kind of an inconsistent accent. I liked the dialogue, though, with Layton being pretty damn unsettling, actually. The ending was funny, too. Wasn't really expecting it.

You did well with Layton's face and expressions. The over-the-top faces don't really wok with Luke in my opinion, I feel like it lessens the effect of Layton's dickery when it's supposed to be the heart of the parody's dark humor. I think it's better when the two are contrasted more with Layton being the carefree one making silly faces occasionally.

Overall could use a bit more polish, some more consistency on certain visual details, like the fold on the building Luke hits while falling and his bloody face which is occasionally not bloody at all. I'm sure you'll get better at that stuff with time. The humor isn't outrageously funny, but it's dark and well-timed as well as backed up well by visuals. So keep it up, I'd really like to see more from you!

Wow this is such an in depth and detailed review! Thank you for taking the time! I really appreciate all of your critique! This helps alot! I will keep working on improving my art 😃 thanks so much 😄

I'm sorry, dude, but I don't think this is the kind of stuff to post on the Movie Portal. It's really short and nothing happens. I kinda like the style, definitely feels like a really old Flash animation. The actual movement is pretty jerky, especially when he hits the blunt, because up to that point and after it he was moving his arm smoothly and then he just smash-cuts it to his mouth.
Maybe you could post this to the Art Portal as a GIF? Just try to not submit stuff that doesn't really leave the viewer with an experience or feels incomplete. I know that's vague, you're the only one who can judge that.

CHEAPTOONS responds:

Ok ...that sounds like a good idea to post it on the art portal...I'll try and do that
Thanks for the advice

Really nice art and animation, but most importantly, you added something. You added background details and visual gags, while also keeping them in line with the audio. Especially like the transition from Chris giggling with those weird teeth to him posing his own game theory. Accentuated the whole thing very well.
Keep it up, you're good at this stuff!

Nice animation and pretty fun too, but it's the audio that brings it down. I know you can't just make your mic higher quality, but I feel like you should have left out or significantly lowered the volume on the music. It didn't really fit (too dramatic) and made the lines slightly harder to understand. I liked the premise and the Christmas season joke was nicely executed with those few moments of silence before the switch back to talking. That's the one point where I feel the music came in nicely. The ending didn't have much of a punchline, though, maybe if Mary had gone into labor or something?
Overall it could have had a bit more humor to it, sone extra jokes and a better punchline, as well as some better sound design, but I do appreciate the good parts. Merry Christmas!
